Therapy Dogs

At The Grange Primary School, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of every child. As part of our growing emotional and mental health offer, we have introduced a Therapy Dog Programme in partnership with Paws Therapy Dogs.

Our two puppies, Buckley (Golden Retriever) and Freddie (Labradoodle), are being trained to become therapy dogs who can support pupils through structured sessions including:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Pastoral support
  • Reading confidence
  • Calm time and reward interventions

Currently, Buckley and Freddie are getting used to school life – they are in school for short periods, but are not yet interacting with children. All children have been taught how to behave calmly around them and are encouraged to wave from a distance. The dogs are always on a lead, accompanied by trained staff and will never be left alone with pupils.

Safeguarding and Welfare: Buckley and Freddie are fully insured, vaccinated, and registered with Paws Therapy Dogs. They are only handled by trained, DBS-checked staff and are included in our risk assessments. We review our therapy dog provision regularly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both children and dogs.
