Registration
The school gates are open at 8.35am – registration takes place at 8.45am.
Students who arrive after the expected time, will be monitored, and if the child is late on more than seven occasions, a letter will be sent to the parent/carer informing them that their child will have to make up the amount of minutes they are late each day by working in the restorative unit during their break time, for an equal number of minutes.
If there are any problems please contact us so that we are able to offer support.
Attendance
From a safeguarding perspective please:
- Ensure all absences are reported to the school by 9.00am on the morning of the absence, even if your child has been sent home from school the previous day.
- Ring the school for each day of your child’s absence.
- Advise if your child will be late.
- Report all medical appointments in advance, where possible, with a copy of the letter or card supplied. Please try and avoid school hours as this impacts on your child’s attendance.
Attendance Targets
The school target for each student is 100%. Any students who falls below 90% is classed by the DFE as being persistently absent.
Attendance Procedure
Absence is authorised at the school’s discretion and cannot be guaranteed.
Initially a letter will be issued if your child falls below 95 % requesting medical evidence for each absence. A letter will be sent if the attendance percentage does not improve.
If your child’s attendance continues to fall you will be asked to discuss any issues with the Pastoral Manager.
If this is not successful and attendance does not improve the concerns will be referred to the Education Inclusion Officer for further investigation and intervention.
If there are any problems please contact us so we can see what support we are able to offer.
Leave of Absence
The law states that parents/carers do not have the right to take their child out of school for a leave of absence during school time.
Any request for leave of absence should be made on the appropriate application form at least 21 days in advance. The form will be provided by the school office. You will be advised in writing of the outcome.
If you take your child out of school for a leave of absence during term time without the school’s permission this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and may result in parents/carers being issued a Fixed Penalty Notice.
The penalty is £80 per parent, per child if paid within 21 days, or £160 per parent, per child if paid within 28 days. Please see National Guidance.
