At The Grange Primary School, we believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing space in which to explore their feelings, build positive relationships and grow in confidence. That’s why we’ve chosen the Jigsaw Scheme of Work to deliver our Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) education across every year group.
A Whole-School Approach
Jigsaw PSHE weaves together mindfulness, emotional literacy and social skills into a coherent “puzzle” of learning. Each half-term, children from Reception to Year 6 engage with one of six themes—known as “Puzzle Pieces”—so that they progressively develop self-awareness, empathy and resilience:
- Being Me in My World: Understanding our place in school, feelings of success and self-worth
- Celebrating Difference: Embracing diversity, tackling bullying and developing respect
- Dreams & Goals: Setting aspirations, overcoming challenges and working collaboratively
- Healthy Me: Looking after physical and mental well-being, making balanced choices
- Relationships: Building positive friendships, understanding boundaries and communication
- Changing Me: Growing up, body changes and developing a healthy mindset
Active, Engaging Learning
Every lesson blends discussion, creative activities and calm “Chime Time” moments—giving children the language and strategies they need to manage emotions, solve problems and support one another. Our dedicated PSHE HLTA works closely with class teachers and the PSHE Lead to tailor Jigsaw activities to our school community, ensuring relevance and accessibility for all pupils.
Partnership with Families
We know that PSHE learning resonates most when reinforced at home. Throughout the year, children will bring pieces of work home related to their current topic, providing an opportunity to discuss their learning at home.
RHE
Relationship and Health Education (RHE) forms an important aspect of our curriculum provision at The Grange Primary School. This area covers aspects of how to grow up healthy, happy, safe as well as how to equip children with the knowledge and skills to manage the challenges and opportunities they may face in our modern Britain of today. All our content is delivered at an appropriate age-related level. To know more, please see the Governments’ guide for parents.
