Personal Development

At The Grange Primary School, we believe that a bespoke personal development curriculum is vital because it ensures every child’s unique background and learning journey are recognised and celebrated. Supplementing our statutory PSHE framework and the wider curriculum, it responds to local contextual needs and weaves British values, protected characteristics—and our core values of respect, resilience and reflection—into every topic.

Through a coherent programme of SMSC enrichment—visits, guest speakers, arts, music and outdoor learning—it builds pupils’ cultural capital beyond the classroom and encourages them to show respect for diverse perspectives. Age-appropriate lessons and pastoral support on nutrition, exercise, mental well-being and healthy relationships teach pupils to respect their own bodies and emotions, while guided reflection helps them make healthy choices.

A broad range of clubs invites children to explore and excel, developing resilience through new challenges. Career-awareness activities give real-world insights that prompt thoughtful reflection on future pathways.

Pupil voice and leadership opportunities cultivate active citizenship, and a rigorous system of monitoring and evaluation ensures all pupils, including those with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds, can reflect on their progress, build resilience where needed, and have every success celebrated.
