The Grange Primary School
Pupil VoiceHouse Captains
Every year, our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to proudly put themselves forward to be House Captains. They prepare speeches and every pupil in school votes for who they believe will represent their team and help lead them to earn the most effort points throughout the year. The House Captains are positive role models for pupils and demonstrate the core school values and encourage others to do the same.
School Council
Children who wish to stand for election prepare and deliver a short presentation to their class. This is followed by a ballot, where pupils vote to elect a Class Captain and Vice-Captain to represent them on the School Council.
The elected representatives attend regular council meetings where they discuss a wide range of ideas, suggestions and concerns raised by their classmates. Projects are also brought to the School Council by staff members for consideration. All matters are open to discussion and debate, and representatives often take ideas back to their classes to gather further views before final decisions are made.
Importantly, School Council meetings and decision-making processes are carefully planned in line with the developmental stages of our pupils. Our approach is underpinned by Hart’s Ladder of Participation, ensuring that children are supported to move progressively towards meaningful participation, shared decision-making and genuine pupil voice. This framework ensures that contributions are age-appropriate, inclusive and empowering for all pupils from Year 1 through to Year 6.
The School Council plays an active and important role in school life and proudly represents the voice of our pupils.

Subject Representatives
Each subject is represented by a child from each year group in Key Stage 2. Children are selected not only based on their academic ability but also for their passion and knowledge about specific areas of learning. We aim to give children extra responsibility in order to promote independence and a love of the subject. Subject representatives provide a pupil voice to subject leaders, therefore allowing subject leaders to understand teaching and learning from a child’s point of view. Subject representatives are expected to be positive role models to children throughout the school.
In addition to subject representatives, pupils in KS2 are also given the opportunity to be Eco Representatives to drive forward the global sustainability agenda. Mental Health Ambassadors support senior leaders and teachers to prioritise pupil mental health and wellbeing. Community Ambassadors are dedicated to networking within the local community and engaging in community events. Assembly Ambassadors help to promote understanding of British Values and Protected Characteristics by planning and delivering whole school assemblies.
Through a variety of roles and responsilbilities and sharing their voice, pupils at The Grange Primary School are able to become reflective, resilient and respectful citizens.
