Homework and Spelling

One piece of English and maths will be set each week. It is set on a Friday and to be handed in the following Friday.

A list of Learning Log activities will be set at the beginning of each topic.
The children will choose 5 of them and they have half a term to complete these.

Spellings are sent home on a Friday and are tested the following Friday.

Reading

Children are expected to read 3 times per week at home, which should be recorded in their planners. Planners are checked on a Friday and must be handed in daily.

At the end of each term, there is a reading and homework reward for all children who have consistently completed their homework and handed it in by the deadline and who have read three times a week for a full term.

Homework club is available at playtimes for children who require time in school to complete their homework.

English

We will be using the popular ‘Where’s Wally?’ books to increase our knowledge of expanded noun phrases to specify. What can you find in the picture?

Also in English we are going to be focusing on Legends and Myths particularly the story of ‘George and the Dragon’ we will be revisiting skills such as using inverted commas for speech and extending our sentences using conjunctions.

We will be writing our own myths and legends and learning about what features this genre contains.

Maths

In the summer term we will be focusing on multiplication and division methods. We are learning two new written methods to help us solve multiplication problems: the grid method and the smile method. We are also looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, looking at nets of shapes and sorting shapes based on their properties.

Safer Internet Day 2015 – 10th February

As part of this nation wide event we looked at keeping safe on the internet. The web site we looked at was http://www.kidsmart.org.uk/

Please take the time to look at this with your children it has lots of information and advice for keeping children safe at home when using the internet.

Reminders

A polite reminder that PE is every Monday and kit must be in school. Thank you Mrs Knowles.

Pupils are also required to read three times a week and this must be recorded in their planner.
